A lifelong love of telling stories
About
As a child I always loved storytelling. I’d create hand drawn magazines with colourful made up stories (I remember one with villainous monkeys wearing gas masks), I penned sci-fi and horror short stories and I cajoled my brother and friends from the street to record radio plays I’d written on an old cassette recorder. I’ve always found it a thrill to think up a story and then see it come to life as I imagined it and touch an audience.
I gained a wealth of experience as a computer programmer and systems analyst, then as a management and communications consultant and trainer. But I increasingly found myself longing to tell stories again; to reconnect with what I find innately joyful. I joined the Jakarta Players community theatre group and started directing and acting in plays. I taught myself to make dramatic educational videos to enliven the training programs I was writing and teaching. Soon my training clients started asking me to make documentary-style films for them, leading to many wonderful film making experiences all over Indonesia. I loved making films so much I got myself properly qualified in Sydney Australia and I haven’t looked back, making more than fifty films for good causes over the last few years.
